Jim Carrey Parts Ways With His Maui Oceanfront Estate at $35 Million
Keawakapu Beach, Maui, Hawaii, United States | $35,000,000

There are beachfront properties, and then there are properties that make the beach feel like an extension of the living room. Jim Carrey’s Maui estate belongs to the latter category. Set on nearly one acre along Keawakapu Beach, where South Kihei Road ends and the Wailea resort corridor begins, the residence was designed by architecture firm Ike Kligerman Barkley to exist in seamless dialogue with the sand, the water, and the Hawaiian sky. Now, following a decade of ownership and just days after marrying his longtime partner Min Ah in an intimate Los Angeles ceremony, Carrey has placed the property on the market for $35,000,000.

The listing is handled by Blake Hill of Hawaii Life.

A Quiet Decade on the Sand

Carrey purchased the property in 2016 for $16.5 million during a period in which the actor was increasingly stepping away from the Hollywood pace that had defined his career since the triple-hit year of 1994, when ‘Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,’ ‘The Mask,’ and ‘Dumb and Dumber’ made him one of the most bankable stars in the world.

On Maui, Carrey built a different kind of life. Reports have described his existence on the island as deliberately low-key: reading, writing, walking, painting, and sketching. In 2018, he characterized his Maui lifestyle as “an isolated life,” and by 2022, he told interviewers he was “fairly serious” about stepping away from acting altogether. “I really like my quiet life,” he said, while discussing his passion for painting and his spiritual practices.

The sale of the Maui estate follows the disposal of Carrey’s other significant property: a Brentwood estate he had owned for nearly 30 years. That property, purchased in 1994 for $3.8 million, endured a lengthy listing process with successive price reductions from an initial $28.9 million before ultimately selling for $17 million in 2024.

Ike Kligerman Barkley: Thatched Roofs and Douglas Fir

The architecture firm Ike Kligerman Barkley, whose portfolio spans from Manhattan townhouses to rural estates, brought a distinctly Hawaiian sensibility to the Keawakapu Beach property. The primary residence sits under a great thatched roof, framed in Douglas fir and lined in woven bamboo, materials and techniques that root the home in the island’s building traditions while operating at a level of refinement that elevates it well above the typical beachfront construction.

The great room rises into the exposed trusses and opens fully to a covered stone lanai, creating a spatial sequence that moves from sheltered interior to covered outdoor living to open lawn to sand in a matter of steps. Grass comes next, then the beach. The transition is unhurried and intentional, a quality that defines the entire property’s relationship with its setting.

Three Bedrooms, Two Buildings, One Shoreline

The estate is organized across two separate structures positioned at opposite ends of the nearly one-acre lot. The primary residence houses the main living spaces and the master suite, which is tucked under the ridgeline upstairs, where glass panels fold back to a deck positioned directly over the sand. From bed level, the Pacific is not a view but an immediate physical presence.

A second building stands on the far side of the grounds, housing guest quarters on its upper floor. This ohana has a separate entry, two bedrooms each with its own bath, and a lanai and balcony facing the sea. The independence of the guest structure from the main house provides genuine privacy for visitors while keeping both buildings oriented toward the same stretch of coastline.

Between the two structures, a freeform pool curves through natural rock, hiding a grotto and a slide, with a shallow ledge for lounging and an elevated spa. The pool’s organic form echoes the volcanic landscape of the island rather than imposing a geometric footprint on it.

170 Feet of Keawakapu Frontage

The property’s roughly 170 feet of water frontage allows both structures to sit far back behind a wide green lawn and a grove of tall coconut palms. The setback is a defining characteristic of the estate: rather than perching at the water’s edge, the buildings engage with the beach across a generous foreground that absorbs the scale of the ocean and gives the property a sense of room that tighter beachfront lots cannot achieve.

Looking west, Kaho’olawe and Lanai fill the horizon, with sunsets dropping into the ocean in every season. The listing describes the property as a “bohemian luxury unicorn,” noting that oceanfront land of this scale is uncommon in Maui.

Maui’s Oceanfront Market and the Rarity Premium

Oceanfront acreage on Maui’s south shore operates within a market defined by structural scarcity. Regulatory constraints, conservation protections, and the finite supply of buildable beachfront parcels mean that properties of this scale and quality are not being created through new development. When they surface, they tend to attract buyers who understand that the land itself, not just the improvements, is the primary asset.

At $35,000,000, Carrey is seeking to more than double his 2016 acquisition price of $16.5 million, a premium that reflects both the architectural investment by Ike Kligerman Barkley and the irreplaceable nature of nearly one acre on Keawakapu Beach with 170 feet of direct ocean frontage.

The listing arrives at a moment of personal transition for Carrey. The marriage to Min Ah, his “sublime companion” as he described her during a tribute at the César Awards in Paris earlier this year, and the sale of both his Brentwood and Maui properties suggest a deliberate reshaping of his life’s physical footprint. Where the next chapter takes him remains to be seen.
