The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ‘Golden Era’ is perhaps the most challenging bespoke project that Bugatti has ever undertaken.

‘Golden Era’ is the first car released within the brand’s Sur Mesure program, dedicated to delivering ultimate custom upgrades and trimmings that extend beyond the already high level of Bugatti customization.

The result of two years of innovative and bespoke craftsmanship, the ‘Golden Era’ features new techniques that elevate it from the world of automotive and into pure artistry.

The vision for the ‘Golden Era’ came from a Bugatti collector with a deep appreciation for the brand’s history and the engineering of the W16 engine, and it was brought to life in a collaborative process with the design team.

The car was officially handed over to its owner at Monterey Car Week.

The modern Sur Mesure program draws inspiration from Bugatti’s history and the legendary Hotel de Pur Sang.

In the late 1920s, Hotel de Pur Sang was created in Ettore Bugatti’s villa in Molsheim, France, where the owner welcomed high-profile clients, friends, and monarchs. VIPs came to collect their cars but, most importantly, to discuss shapes, colors, equipment, and all the unique features they wanted for their vehicles.

This is where the ideas for Bugatti’s artisan cars began to take shape. According to the brand, the spirit of Hotel de Pur Sang served as a foundation for the Sur Mesure program.

Bugatti’s Sur Mesure Program and the Legacy of the ‘Golden Era’

“With Sur Mesure, which means ‘Custom Made’ in French, Bugatti ushers in a new era of customization. The company not only allows customers to select body colors and interior trims but also encourages them to express their creative ideas and desires, which will be brought to life by the design team.

Sur Mesure is dedicated to developing advanced designs, interior features, and graphic schemes.

The owner of the Bugatti ‘Golden Era’ sought to pay homage to the history that played a crucial role in the development of the W16 engine.

The design concept included hand-painted images on the side. The primary challenge was to achieve the old-school blueprint look, reminiscent of Ettore’s original drawings.

According to the brand, “the ideal symbiosis of modern technology was used to follow classic craftsmanship, attention to detail, and precision”.

“The machines are mighty, but customers like to see the human touch and even the slight imperfections that show the emotion and bespoke nature of finished work”.

Sur Mesure Program Sets a New Standard

Currently, all the slots for Sur Mesure treatment are occupied, and Bugatti encourages customers to check availability. The first cars have been delivered to their customers, and a few more are in the pipeline.

With a price of almost $4 million for a finished car, it is one of the most expensive custom jobs ever. Since the attention to detail, the development process, and creativity are unlimited, we are confident that all other Sur Mesure Chirons will be rolling works of art, just like the Bugattis of the 1930s.
