HISTORY of the CASTLE
First built in 1791, Glorious Peleys is the epitome of an Outstanding Sample Architecture of 18th century Pelion. Its first owner was a wealthy Greek tradesman from Alexandria, Egypt, who became the commander of Vyzitsa, and helped in the development of the area, which then, during Ottoman rule, attracted bandits and pirates. Thus, in Glorious Peleys Castle you can discover Defensive Architectural details, turret, and underground passage connecting the two main parts of the building complex.
Its latest owners transformed it into a romantic luxury Château – Residence, with a nifty and rich garden, quality rooms with Italian furniture, carpets, sky beds, and artistically painted ceilings and frescoes As a result, this magnificent building can be used as a comfortable and exquisite home, as it was originally used, or easily transformed into a Museum, a Hotel, a Retreat, (or, other).
RESTORATION & AWARDS
The castle’s Restoration (1991) followed all high and advisable architectural standards, and has won Distinctions as a Remarkable Sample of Architecture (Greek Ministry of Culture: Architectural Committee, 1988), as a «Pilot Project» Hotel – Destination of Winter Tourism (Greek National Organisation of Tourism, 1989), as a Building of European Architectural Heritage (European Community, Brussels), and as an Choice for the Protection of the Interest of a Traditional Building (Technical Chamber of Greece), amongst many awards. Additionally, its Antiquities and other historical objects, created the Local Folklore Collection of Vyzitsa (With the Permission of the Court of First Instance of Volos, Greece) housed inside the Castle, which was also included in the «50 Unique Hotels with Character» (USA TODAY Newspaper), and the Italian DOVE and L’ EUROPEO, to mention a few.
ARCHITECTURE
Built in 1791, Restored in 1991 with a Fortress Structure and strong Building Lines. It is characterized by Kastronas, Turret (in the West), Crypt (secret underground passage), Defense space with Loops and many original Medieval features, such as Crucible for boiled oil-water, Hooks, Bars, Loopholes, and a small Turret as an Escape Exit.

This special building, with a magnificent view to Pagasitic Gulf, but also around Vyzitsa, consists of 11 luxurious Rooms with painted ceilings, windows with wonderful view and Stained Glass windows.
