Villefranche-sur-Mer occupies one of the most coveted positions on the Côte d’Azur, set between Nice and the Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula on a deep natural harbour that has drawn admirers for centuries. The old town, with its ochre and terracotta facades rising directly from the waterfront, retains a scale and coherence that larger Riviera cities have long since lost. The heights above the bay offer unobstructed panoramas across to Cap Ferrat and, on clear days, as far as the Lérins Islands.
Daily life centres on the Place du Marché and the waterfront Quai Courbet, where several reliable fish restaurants operate year-round. The covered market runs on weekday mornings. Nice’s Cours Saleya market and the full range of the city’s retail and cultural offer are fifteen minutes by car or a short train ride from Villefranche station.
Villefranche-sur-Mer station sits on the main Marseille to Ventimiglia coastal line, placing Nice Ville station approximately eight minutes away by regional train. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is around twelve kilometres from the town centre, reachable in twenty to twenty-five minutes by car depending on traffic. The A8 motorway provides direct access toward Monaco, roughly twenty minutes east, and toward Cannes and Aix-en-Provence to the west.
