This magnificent villa, with 780 square meters of interior space, is situated in a privileged hillside location on the outskirts of Vicenza, overlooking the enchanting “Valletta del Silenzio” —a name first given by its most illustrious original owner, the famous 19th-century Italian writer Antonio Fogazzaro, who wrote novels such as “Piccolo Mondo Moderno,” “Daniele Cortis,” and other works here.
This historic site was, in fact, the original residence of the noble Fogazzaro family, which was destroyed during World War II as a result of the bombings of Vicenza in December 1943 and May 1944.
In 1952, the current owners—direct descendants of the Fogazzaro family—rebuilt the villa in its present Anglo-Saxon-inspired form, recreating the refined atmosphere and cultural elegance that once characterized this extraordinary place.
The villa’s most precious treasure is undoubtedly its location. From the terrace, one enjoys an unobstructed view of the “Valletta del Silenzio,” the protected landscape that owes its famous name to Antonio Fogazzaro, who christened it thus while admiring its beauty from his home. The valley remains one of the most prized natural areas in the Vicenza region: meadows, streams, woods, and the gentle slopes of the Berici Hills come together to create a landscape of exceptional beauty and serenity, even though it is located just a few minutes from the city center.
Over the decades, the villa has continued to welcome an exclusive circle of guests and personalities from the worlds of art and culture—including Cecil Beaton, who celebrated its tranquility and called it the best place for an aperitif at sunset; Joseph Losey during the filming of his movie *Don Giovanni*; Albert Finney, Carla Fracci, Jack Palance, Geza Anda, Rudolf Nureyev, Prince Michael of Kent during the Mille Miglia reenactment, the Maharaja of Kapurtala, Salvador Dalí, and many others—all drawn by its unique charm and timeless refinement.
Today, the villa combines historic charm with modern comforts. Featuring a beautiful swimming pool with a panoramic view stretching all the way to the nearby, famous Villa Valmarana ai Nani, it offers a perfect blend of historical heritage and contemporary luxury.
The property is also easy to manage thanks to the complete renovation carried out in 2013 and the installation of modern amenities such as a gourmet kitchen, a study/office, air conditioning, a secure vault, video surveillance, an alarm system, an automatic gate, a re-roofed roof, and heating and cooling systems.
It is located a short walk from the historic center of Vicenza and just a 35-minute train ride from Venice.
The villa features ten bedrooms, eight of which are double bedrooms (five with private bathrooms), and a total of eight bathrooms. The master suite offers direct access to the pool. The elegant reception areas include a dining room and a spacious living room with a fireplace, adjacent to the entrance hall, both with direct access to the garden. The outdoor area is enhanced by the swimming pool in a prime location, complete with a changing room, minibar, and outdoor shower; the pool area is fenced to ensure maximum safety. The villa is currently used as a luxury vacation rental, a highly profitable venture that allows the owners to maintain it in perfect condition.
The sale may include the furnishings, subject to separate negotiation, should the buyer so desire.
Located in the historic city of Vicenza, this property offers convenient access to cultural landmarks such as Palladian Villas and Teatro Olimpico. It is situated near the Vicenza train station (5 min) for regional travel and close to the Vicenza Airport (20 min). Enjoy dining options, upscale shopping, and nearby green spaces. The location balances cultural heritage with practical transport links.
