A Magnificent Life's Work

Ängavallen Gård is in many ways a magnificent life’s work and an important chapter in Swedish agricultural history. Its story began in 1971 with a groundbreaking vision for small-scale, fully organic food production—emphasizing quality at every stage of refinement and the wellbeing of animals. Today, the estate operates a modern and award-winning facility in every respect, encompassing everything from a hotel and restaurant to a farm shop and food production—all done entirely from scratch.

The restaurant and hotel building spans approximately 1,000 square meters, housing a restaurant, dining rooms, conference and event spaces with a total capacity of about 250 guests, and a large hall that easily accommodates 80 people. The property also includes eleven modern hotel rooms, beautifully and individually designed. All of this is housed within converted farm buildings that preserve original details and charm in the best possible way.

The farm shop—Scandinavia’s first of its kind—also features a beloved café and welcomes thousands of returning visitors throughout the year. Here, guests are invited to pick up a picnic basket and enjoy its contents in the herb garden or one of the park’s many green rooms.

Ängavallen’s farming operations now revolve primarily around the estate’s own registered brands. Animals are allowed to express their natural behavior and roam freely year-round, while all organic, refined products come directly from the kitchen garden. Animal welfare, including care and breeding, is at the heart of the operation. The farm’s 40 hectares of arable land are used for organic cultivation on some of the region’s finest soil, including a smaller section dedicated to open-field growing of berries, root vegetables, and greens. On the estate, there are complete facilities for pigs, sheep, and cattle, all of which have year-round access to indoor and outdoor spaces, along with several other practical outbuildings.

To complete the food production chain, a comprehensive processing facility has been built—including a modern slaughterhouse, butchering room, charcuterie, and smoking section. A separate area houses a dairy and cheese-making facility. All of this is fully approved by the relevant authorities.

The main residence encompasses roughly 350 square meters and features a characteristic Skåne-style stepped gable façade. The house, the earliest part of which dates back to 1690, offers a modern home with several bedroom wings and expansive living areas adorned with elegant 19th-century details such as tiled stoves and decorative plasterwork. The surrounding park is home to towering heritage trees, lush vegetation around the pond, and beautiful maple arbors shaped into round formations—a dream setting for botanical enthusiasts, lovers of beauty, or children on a magical adventure.

The commitment to organic principles and natural living at Ängavallen was, and remains, truly pioneering. It has created a unique place where deep respect for animal welfare defines the essence of the farm.
