Saint-Raphaël sits at the eastern edge of the Var coast, where the red porphyry rock of the Massif de l’Estérel meets the Mediterranean. The town has been a destination since the Belle Époque, when its mild winters and dramatic coastline drew Parisian society, and that legacy is still legible in the architecture along the seafront and around the old port. Today it functions as a well-established residential base on the Côte d’Azur, with a character that is more settled and less transient than its neighbour Cannes.
The covered market on Place Victor Hugo runs daily and is the practical centre of local food shopping. The old port area offers a reliable range of restaurants, including L’Arbousier for regional cuisine. The beaches of Agay and Boulouris are within a short drive, and the Estérel coastal path is accessible directly from town.
Saint-Raphaël has a mainline TGV station with direct services to Paris Gare de Lyon in approximately three hours. Cannes is 25 minutes by train, Nice around 50 minutes. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport, the primary hub for the region with extensive European and intercontinental routes, is approximately 60 kilometres away, reachable in under an hour by car outside peak summer traffic.
