Czech Republic Sotheby’s International Realty presents an exceptional country estate for sale in the Strakonice region, at the foothills of the Šumava Mountains. More than 300 years old and partly a former forge, it has been meticulously restored to combine the authenticity of a traditional South Bohemian homestead with the comfort and technology of contemporary premium living.

The restoration carefully respected the original architecture, proportions and materials. Preserved elements were restored, while irreparable features were replaced with hand-crafted replicas based on historic originals. Exceptional craftsmanship is evident throughout, from travertine bathrooms and substantial solid-oak floors made from timber reclaimed from 300- to 500-year-old buildings, to bespoke copper kitchen details.

Windows replicate 19th-century originals, while doors, staircases, cast-iron radiators, period ironmongery and timber structures were individually crafted or restored. The thatched roofs were laid and tied by hand, insulated with natural sheep’s wool, and the open attic interiors retain their striking exposed roof structures. Period-inspired furniture, paintings, hand-woven rugs, linen curtains and bespoke lighting complete an atmosphere that feels naturally shaped by the history of the place rather than newly created.

Contemporary technology remains discreetly hidden behind the historic character. The estate includes a split heat pump, air conditioning in the main residence, Jablotron security system, private deep well, automatic wastewater treatment plant and GPS-controlled robotic garden maintenance.
