Deià occupies a steep hillside on Mallorca’s northwest coast, within the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, which holds UNESCO World Heritage status as a cultural landscape. The village is internationally recognised as one of the most architecturally and culturally significant settlements on the island, long associated with artists, writers, and musicians. Its stone houses, terraced olive groves, and direct access to the sea at Cala Deià give it a character that is entirely distinct from the resort towns of the south and east.

Daily life in Deià centres on a small but well-regarded selection of restaurants and cafés, including Ca’s Patro March at Cala Deià and the long-established La Residencia hotel, which houses the El Olivo restaurant. The village has a weekly market and a local church, with broader shopping and services available in Sóller, approximately 10 kilometres to the northeast.

Sóller is reachable by car in around 15 minutes via the MA-10 coastal road, and connects onward to Palma via the historic wooden train, a journey of approximately one hour. By car, Palma is roughly 30 kilometres from Deià, taking around 40 minutes. Palma de Mallorca Airport handles direct flights to most major European cities, with journey times from the airport to Deià typically under one hour by car.
