Sóller occupies a broad valley in the Serra de Tramuntana, the mountain range that runs along Mallorca’s northwest coast and carries UNESCO World Heritage status as a cultural landscape. The town has a distinct character shaped by its relative isolation: until the early twentieth century, the only land route over the mountains was a mule track, and the community developed strong trading ties with France instead. That history is still legible in the architecture, the modernista facades on the central Plaça de Constitució, and the unhurried pace of daily life.

The weekly market on Plaça de Constitució draws local producers every Saturday. Café Central and Bar Soller are established fixtures on the square. Puerto de Sóller, the harbour district two kilometres away, has a concentrated restaurant strip along the waterfront, including Es Faro at the lighthouse. The Sóller valley is known for its citrus groves, and local orange products are sold throughout the town.

Palma is approximately 30 kilometres by road via the Ma-11 mountain route, taking around 40 minutes by car. The historic narrow-gauge train from Sóller to Palma’s Plaça d’Espanya takes roughly one hour and operates daily. A connecting tram runs between Sóller town and Puerto de Sóller. Palma de Mallorca Airport is approximately 45 to 50 minutes by car and serves a wide range of European destinations with direct year-round and seasonal routes.
