We propose a luxury villa in Sicily, located in an excellent context of noble villas in the city of Syracuse. This charming historic villa is situated in the highest part of the ancient and historic promontory of Plemmirio in Syracuse, in an excellent context of stately villas that belonged to other aristocratic families of Sicily. At the beginning of the century, as evidenced by a period photograph, two magnificent lions adorned the sides of the access staircase to the villa: these two marble sculptures were stolen during World War II. In testimony to the family’s nobility, an ancient heraldic coat of arms carved in stone peeks through the vegetation of the botanical garden on a stone belvedere tower, where it was customary for the family to relax while observing the sea of the large port. The villa has many rooms and is characterized by a beautiful glass-enclosed veranda topped by a wrought iron structure in the Liberty style. This luxury villa has been well preserved for years and develops over three levels, featuring a total of nine bedrooms, a large party hall where events were organized: this hall communicates with another room, among which stands out a double-faced stone fireplace that was used for heating both rooms. Outside, there is a 19th-century botanical garden revisited by the renowned Ettore Paternò of Toscano, who introduced a considerable number of rare plants, still existing today. Walking through the paths feels like traveling back in time nearly two hundred years. The origin of the villa is much older, and from certain studies, the current one was built on an area where there was a fortified structure dating back to the time of the foundation of Greek Syracuse; indeed, there are ancient representations of a castle with watchtowers right at the point where this villa stands today. This territory of Sicily is also described by the great poet Virgil in the third book of the Aeneid. The villa is located in the land that gave birth to the mathematician physicist Archimedes, just a few hundred meters from the coves of the Syracuse coast facing the island of Ortigia, washed by a charming blue sea in which history recounts great naval battles between Corinthian Syracuse and the Athenians first, and against the Roman siege later. This luxury villa deserves to return to its former glory. The writer Roger Peyrefitte in his book - Returns to Sicily - describes this villa as sumptuous, probably in gratitude for the hospitality of the owners. Possibility to purchase two additional buildings, an ancient stable and a masonry event pavilion that can be transformed into an elegant villa or dependence by adding another hectare of land with also a possible unused volume. If you are looking for luxury villas in Sicily with a charm of bygone times, this proposal is certainly the most exclusive you can find.
