A suggestive site, with housing and residential category, of great visual impact, rises in the pulsating heart of the island of Ortigia. Perhaps the alley, where it is located, is a little unknown to many Syracusans, but certainly not to artisans and art lovers. The prestigious building that we present to you, was born in 1652 as the Monastery of Santa Teresa founded under the Carmelite rule by the then bishop Giovanni Antonio Capobianco. In this church, in addition to the celebrations of their institute, the Teresian nuns solemnly celebrated the feast of the Heart of Jesus. A fire in 1800 destroyed it, to be rebuilt in 1806, until 1882, due to the lack of maintenance of the prison, the hosts were forced to move and finally in 1885 the church was granted to the Naviganti society. It closed definitively for worship in June 1924. Subsequently, it welcomed and was the seat of important public and private activities. The building covers a total surface area of approximately 1000 square meters. 500 and has a height of about ten meters; it is developed on three levels with pillars that support the upper levels. Outside you can admire the main facade of the building, the windows enriched by frames on the sides, details that tell the story of a sacred place. Today, thanks to an urban-scenographic reworking, you can revive a historical-cultural cross-section of a monument with its oldest, surviving, architectural testimonies of Ortigia.
