Medieval castle with private church, in need of renovation, in Montalcino, Siena – Tuscany

REF. MON123

In Tuscany, just 11 km from Montalcino (Siena), we are offering for sale a 14th-century medieval castle with a private octagonal church and extensive surrounding grounds.

Surrounded by hills covered in vineyards and oak trees, the castle boasts an enchanting panoramic view of the Crete Senesi and the characteristic landscape of Montalcino, which lies just 11 km away. An avenue lined with centuries-old cypress trees leads to the imposing structure, characterised by red brickwork and a height of 18 metres. The layout comprises two distinct sections, with a central courtyard housing a well, whilst the arrowslits bear witness to its defensive role during the wars between Siena and Florence.

After 1453, the castle became the residence of a noble family who extended the structure, adding an octagonal chapel. Despite the passing of the centuries, many of the original architectural features have remained intact, lending the place a timeless charm. The interiors feature preserved brick walls, arches, colonnades and frescoed ceilings, which tell the story of a bygone era.

Currently, the complex has been in a state of neglect for several decades. Although some structural reinforcement work has been carried out, a complete renovation is required to breathe new life into it, for both residential and hospitality purposes. A plan approved by the relevant authorities is already in place, designed to respect the site’s landscape and architectural features, with particular attention paid to the choice of materials and decorative details.

This extraordinary historic property in need of renovation offers a total floor area of 3,900 square metres and presents a unique opportunity to create:

a luxury residence in Tuscany,

an exclusive hospitality venue,

a venue for private events and charming weddings.
