In the municipality of San Giuliano Terme, in the hamlet of Metato, we offer for sale a stunning historic residence built in the second half of the 16th century by Giulio dei Medici, the natural son of Alessandro de’ Medici, who was himself the natural son of Lorenzo, Duke of Urbino, and an African slave. It was his residence from 1563 when he was appointed by his uncle Cosimo I as admiral of the Medici fleet at Porto Pisano (Livorno) and of the Order of the Knights of Santo Stefano in 1563. The villa, attributed to Buontalenti or Francavilla, is arranged over two floors with kneeling windows topped with stone pediments in typical Florentine style. The layout is rectangular, with two turrets at the ends of the facade and a rear gabled facade with a staircase. A large Medici marble coat of arms, featuring the cross of the Knights of Santo Stefano and the grand ducal crown, is located above the main door, which leads inside to a large hall with a stone fireplace also bearing the Medici coat of arms. From here, other rooms branch off, with wooden or frescoed ceilings, and a double flight of stairs leads to the upper floor. Two vaulted rooms were painted by an unknown Pisan painter in the 19th century.
