Saint-Tropez occupies a singular position on the French Riviera, a peninsula town that has drawn artists, writers, and an international elite since the mid-twentieth century without ever losing the physical character of a Provençal fishing port. The old town, with its ochre and terracotta facades around the Place des Lices and the Vieux Port, remains the social and architectural core. The surrounding hills offer elevated positions above the bay, with views across the Gulf of Saint-Tropez toward Sainte-Maxime.

Daily life centres on the Place des Lices market on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, the quayside cafés along the Vieux Port, and restaurants including Sénéquier and La Vague d’Or. Saint-Tropez has no direct rail connection. The nearest train station is at Saint-Raphaël, approximately 35 kilometres away, with TGV services to Paris in around five hours. A seasonal ferry links Saint-Tropez to Saint-Raphaël and Sainte-Maxime. Toulon-Hyères Airport is around 60 kilometres away, while Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport, the primary regional hub with extensive European and intercontinental routes, is approximately 100 kilometres by road.
