Saint-Tropez occupies a singular position on the French Riviera, a small peninsula town in the Var that has defined a certain idea of Mediterranean luxury for decades. Its old port, the Vieux-Port, the ochre and pastel facades of the waterfront, and the narrow lanes of the historic quarter known as La Ponche give the town a physical character that is genuinely distinctive. Despite its international profile, the scale remains intimate, with a permanent population of around four thousand that swells dramatically each summer.

Place des Lices, the town’s central square, hosts a market on Tuesday and Saturday mornings. Key restaurants include Le Girelier on the port and Sénéquier for coffee. The Musée de l’Annonciade holds a serious collection of Post-Impressionist work. Pampelonne Beach is a fifteen-minute drive. Provisioning and daily shopping are concentrated within the old town.

Saint-Tropez has no train station. The nearest rail connection is at Saint-Raphaël, approximately 35 kilometres away, with TGV services to Paris in roughly four hours. A seasonal ferry links the port to Saint-Raphaël and Sainte-Maxime. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is around 100 kilometres by road, typically 90 minutes to two hours depending on summer traffic. Toulon-Hyères Airport is closer at around 60 kilometres, with more limited international routes.
