La Ponche is the oldest and most architecturally intact quarter of Saint-Tropez, a labyrinth of narrow medieval lanes, ochre and terracotta facades, and former fishermen’s houses that predate the town’s transformation into an international destination. Tucked behind the port and sheltered from the main tourist circuits, it retains a scale and quietness that the rest of Saint-Tropez cannot offer. The old town walls, the Tour du Portalet, and the church of Sainte-Anne are all within a few minutes on foot.
The Place des Lices, with its twice-weekly market on Tuesdays and Saturdays, is a ten-minute walk. Restaurants including La Vague d’Or at the Résidence de la Pinède and the terrace tables of Le Gorille near the port are close by. The Plage de la Ponche and Plage des Graniers are both reachable on foot in under five minutes.
Saint-Tropez has no train station. The nearest rail connection is at Saint-Raphaël, approximately 35 kilometres away, with regular TGV services to Paris in roughly four hours. A seasonal ferry links the port directly to Saint-Raphaël and Sainte-Maxime. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is around 100 kilometres by road, typically 90 minutes to two hours depending on summer traffic, and serves a wide range of European and international routes.
