Fréjus occupies a distinctive position on the Var coast, where the Massif de l’Estérel meets the Mediterranean. One of the oldest Roman settlements in Gaul, the city retains a remarkable density of ancient fabric, including an amphitheatre, aqueduct remains, and one of the earliest episcopal complexes in France. Today it functions as a serious year-round residential city rather than a purely seasonal resort, with a character that is more grounded and less transient than its neighbour Saint-Raphaël.

Daily life centres on the Place Formigé market and the old town’s covered market hall. The Port-Fréjus marina district offers waterfront dining, including La Rivière and several well-regarded seafood restaurants. The beaches of Fréjus-Plage extend for several kilometres. Saint-Raphaël’s broader retail and restaurant offer is five minutes by car.

Saint-Raphaël TGV station, roughly five kilometres away, connects to Marseille in under an hour and to Paris in approximately four hours. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is around 60 kilometres east, typically 45 to 55 minutes by car depending on traffic. The A8 autoroute provides direct access west toward Aix-en-Provence and Marseille, and east toward Cannes and Monaco, making Fréjus a practical base for the entire Côte d’Azur corridor.
