Rustrel is a small village in the Vaucluse department of Provence, set within the Luberon regional natural park and best known as the gateway to the Colorado Provençal, a landscape of ochre cliffs and ravines that draws comparison with the American Southwest. The village sits at roughly 400 metres elevation, surrounded by lavender fields, oak woodland, and the distinctive rust-red geology that defines this corner of the Apt valley. It is quiet, agricultural, and architecturally intact.

The market town of Apt, 10 kilometres to the southwest, provides the practical core of daily life: a Saturday market, supermarkets, medical services, and a good selection of restaurants. The villages of Roussillon and Gordes, both known for their restaurants and galleries, are within 20 to 30 minutes by car. Bonnieux and Lacoste are similarly close.

Apt is the nearest town with a direct road connection to the A7 autoroute via the N100. Avignon, with its TGV station offering direct services to Paris in roughly 2 hours 40 minutes, is approximately 70 kilometres west, around an hour by car. Marseille Provence Airport is approximately 90 kilometres south, reachable in under 90 minutes, and serves a wide range of European and international destinations.
