Roquebrune-sur-Argens occupies a distinctive position in the Var department, where the red porphyry massif of the Maures meets the Gulf of Saint-Tropez coastline. The commune spans from an inland medieval village perched above the Argens river plain to the coastal resort of Les Issambres, a residential enclave of villas set on hillsides above the sea. This duality, between Provençal interior and Mediterranean waterfront, gives the area a character that is quieter and more residential than the busier resorts to the east.
Les Issambres has a small port, a handful of restaurants along the seafront, and direct access to sandy beaches including Plage de la Gaillarde. The market town of Sainte-Maxime is approximately 10 kilometres along the coast. Fréjus and Saint-Raphaël, with their broader range of shops, restaurants, and services, are around 15 kilometres to the northeast.
Saint-Raphaël has a mainline TGV-connected rail station, placing Marseille at roughly 80 minutes and Nice at around 50 minutes by train. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is approximately 80 kilometres from Roquebrune-sur-Argens, reachable in under an hour by car via the A8 autoroute. The A8 also connects directly to Monaco and the Italian border to the east, and to Aix-en-Provence and beyond to the west.
