Santanyí is a small historic market town in the southeastern corner of Mallorca, known for its distinctive golden sandstone architecture and a pace of life that has remained largely unchanged for generations. The town sits within a landscape of ancient olive groves, dry-stone walls, and dramatic coastal cliffs, and has long attracted a discerning international community of buyers who value authenticity over resort-scale development. Its weekly market, held in the central Plaça Major, remains a genuine local institution rather than a tourist spectacle.

The surrounding municipality includes some of Mallorca’s most sought-after coastal areas: Cala Figuera, Cala Santanyí, and Portopetro are all within a short drive. The town itself has a strong selection of independent restaurants, galleries, and food shops. Es Molí d’en Bou and local wine producers from the Pla i Llevant denomination are part of the broader culinary landscape here.

Palma de Mallorca is approximately 60 kilometres to the west, reachable in around 50 minutes by car via the Ma-19. Palma Airport, which operates direct routes to most major European cities year-round and handles over 30 million passengers annually, is roughly the same distance. There is no rail connection to Santanyí, so a car is essential for daily life. The nearest ferry port for mainland Spain connections is Palma.
