Pollença occupies the northeastern corner of Mallorca, at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana, the mountain range that runs the length of the island’s western and northern edge and carries UNESCO World Heritage status. The town is one of the most architecturally intact in the Balearics, with a medieval core of stone houses, a Roman bridge, and the famous Calvari staircase of 365 steps leading to a hilltop chapel. The weekly Sunday market on Plaça Major is a genuine working market used by residents. The old town has a strong restaurant scene, with La Fonda and Clivia among the established names. Cala Sant Vicenç, a cluster of four small coves with clear water, is roughly five kilometres from the town centre. Port de Pollença, the marina town on the bay, is about four kilometres away and offers sailing, waterfront dining, and a long pedestrian promenade.
Palma de Mallorca is approximately 55 kilometres to the southwest, a drive of around 50 minutes on the Ma-13 motorway. Palma Airport handles direct flights to most major European cities year-round, with significantly expanded routes from March through October. There is no rail connection to Pollença, so a car is essential for daily life. The drive to Alcúdia, the nearest larger town with a hospital and commercial services, takes under 15 minutes.
