Pernes-les-Fontaines is one of the Vaucluse’s most quietly distinguished addresses, a medieval market town defined by its 40-odd decorative fountains, its Romanesque tower, and a well-preserved historic centre that has changed little in character over centuries. Sitting at the western edge of the Luberon region, it occupies a position between the Plateau de Vaucluse and the Comtat Venaissin plain, giving it a grounded, working-Provençal identity that the more tourist-heavy villages nearby have largely lost.
