Orosi Estate

Orosi Estate is one of the few large farms that still remain as a single unit in the Orosi Valley. Before 2016, this estate was one of the largest coffee plantations in the area, producing excellent quality, strictly hard bean Arabica coffee (the estate is currently not producing any coffee).

Orosi Estate is a property with great potential, not only for its production of quality coffee, but also for its unique tourism and vacation residential potential. The Orosi District area, where the farm is located, is a rich volcanic valley ideal for agricultural production, as well as an important tourism destination for coffee lovers and adventure tourists. This property is located only 45 km to the East from San José, Capital City of Costa Rica. Driving to Orosi presents some amazing views of Costa Rican mountains and coffee farms.

Several mountain water streams and creeks cross the estate, which is surrounded by protected forest reserves, offering pure crystal water. Purisil River runs over 2.5 km (1.6 miles) along the estate, 1.2 km (4,000 ft) bordered on both sides within the estate. Altitude at the lowest part of the estate is 1,200 meters above sea level (MASL) or 3,900 ft, and the highest point is at 1,850 MASL (6,100 ft). Behind Orosi Estate, the surrounding highlands of the Orosi Mountains are protected by National Parks and private forest reserves, this way the area maintain its great climate throughout the year and its characteristics undisturbed by human development. The rainy season is concentrated between May and November and the dry season from December to April. Annual rainfall in Orosi is around 2,300 millimeters (90 inches), being at the same time very luminous, with around 2,000 hours of direct sunlight per year, for an average of 165 hours per month.

Coffee Production Potential: Coffee production tradition in Orosi is over 100 years old. The community of Orosi and the surrounding valley has grown around this economic activity. The fertile lands of the Orosi Valley and the magnificent climatic conditions, produces a soft coffee that offers a balanced cup, with good acidity, body, and aroma. New varieties resistant to the Coffee Leaf Rust are now available by ICAFE (institutional organization regulating the coffee sector in Costa Rica), capable of producing up to 60 (or even more) 100 lbs. bags of Green Coffee Beans per hectare per year. Prices for Costa Rica coffee are always above world market prices due to its quality and sustainable production practices (Rainforest Alliance Certification is a common certification in Costa Rica).

Tourism Potential: This estate is perfect for a boutique hotel, taking advantage of the natural settings. The estate has over 12 kms of internal private roads and also trails through the property and forested area for various tourism activities (hiking, jogging, bird watching, etc.). The estate’s streams provide great potential for rainbow trout production & Bottled Water projects. It is also close to the Hacienda Orosi Hot Springs, a thermal spring project recently created as a closer alternative to the 3-hour drive to La Fortuna hot springs.

Real Estate Potential: Current owner has a master plan for a sustainable community development of small Estates for vacation residences.
