The Calatrava district sits at the eastern edge of Palma’s old town, one of the most historically layered quarters in the Balearic capital. Its narrow stone streets, Gothic and Renaissance palaces, and Arab-era traces give it a density of character that the newer parts of Palma cannot replicate. The quarter rises toward the city walls and the Almudaina palace complex, placing residents within a few minutes’ walk of the cathedral, La Seu, one of the great Gothic structures of the western Mediterranean.
Daily life here draws on the old town’s concentrated offer. The Mercat de l’Olivar is a ten-minute walk for fresh produce. Restaurants including Marc Fosh and Aromata are within easy reach. The Passeig des Born, Palma’s main promenade with its banks, boutiques, and cafés, is a short walk to the west.
Palma is well connected for a city of its size. Son Sant Joan airport is approximately 11 kilometres from the old town, around 20 minutes by car, and handles direct routes to most major European cities year-round, with frequency increasing significantly in summer. The city has no high-speed rail link to the Spanish mainland, so air travel is the primary connection. Within Mallorca, the old town is the central reference point for the island’s road network.
