Palma’s Old Town is the historic and cultural core of the Balearic capital, a dense quarter of medieval lanes, Gothic churches, and Renaissance courtyards that has been continuously inhabited for over a thousand years. The area around Plaza Mayor, Plaza de Santa Eulalia, and the Basílica de Sant Francesc represents the most architecturally significant part of the city, where 13th-century stonework sits alongside carefully restored residential buildings and some of Palma’s most respected independent businesses.

Daily life here centers on Mercat de l’Olivar for fresh produce, and the restaurants and cafés along Carrer de la Missió and Carrer dels Apuntadors. The Cathedral La Seu and the Palau de l’Almudaina are a short walk south. The waterfront Passeig Marítim is reachable on foot in under ten minutes.

Palma Airport (PMI) is approximately 11 kilometers from the Old Town, typically 20 to 25 minutes by car or taxi. The city has no high-speed rail connection to the Spanish mainland, making the airport the primary hub. Direct flights operate year-round to Madrid, Barcelona, London, Frankfurt, and Zurich, with significantly expanded routes during the summer season. Ferry services to Barcelona and Valencia depart from the port, a short distance from the Old Town.
