The pressures of daily life fade away as the cable ferry transports you to the charming island of Oaxen, nestled in the Baltic Sea. Offered for sale is Villa Aspbacken, an outstanding residence where carefully selected sustainable materials, refined craftsmanship, and sweeping sea views come together to create a home of rare quality and enduring appeal.

Villa Aspbacken is the realised vision of anthroposophical architect Walter Druml, whose design philosophy centres on creating spaces that foster health, harmony, and well-being. Together with renowned lighting studio Node Ljusdesign, responsible for the property’s interior and exterior lighting concept, and landscape architect Hildegun Nilsson Varhelyi, a seamless living environment has been created - one that feels intrinsically connected to its spectacular waterfront setting.

Positioned on a prime west-facing shoreline plot on the island of Oaxen, the property enjoys uninterrupted water views and magnificent sunsets that can be savoured from the garden or any of its five outdoor terraces.

The island is connected to the mainland by a car ferry with frequent departures throughout the day, making year-round living both practical and convenient - a choice already embraced by nearly one hundred permanent residents. A private boat berth is included with the property and is located approximately 300 metres from the house. Oaxen also offers a boatyard with winter storage facilities for added convenience.

Whether you are searching for an exclusive holiday retreat or a permanent waterfront residence, Villa Aspbacken presents a unique opportunity to enjoy world-class architecture, direct access to the sea, and the tranquillity of archipelago living - all within easy reach of Stockholm.

Crafted with Natural Materials and Exceptional Attention to Detail

Villa Aspbacken has been constructed throughout using natural, sustainable materials of the highest quality. The exterior façade is clad in specially sawn spruce boards in three varying widths, treated by the renowned craftsmen at Järna Lasyrmåleri using traditional iron vitriol and natural pigments. The stainless-steel terrace railings were custom-designed by architect Walter Druml exclusively for this residence and handcrafted on site by Järna Smide.

The walls and ceilings are insulated with eco-fibre insulation, a natural material that is significantly denser than conventional mineral wool, providing superior thermal performance and contributing to a healthier, more comfortable indoor climate. In the detached outbuilding, the current owners have transformed a former storage area into an additional insulated guest room, offering flexible accommodation for family and visitors.

All interior walls feature a double-layer construction and are finished with high-quality, fibreglass-free wall coverings. The lighting scheme, both indoors and outdoors, was designed by Node Ljusdesign, with bespoke lighting elements in the staircase and kitchen created specifically for the property.

The floors throughout the dry living areas on both the main and upper levels are laid with extraordinary eight-metre-long Douglas fir floorboards. These premium planks were individually sanded, lye-treated, and white-oiled on site, creating a warm and timeless expression. Another remarkable architectural feature is that elements of the building’s structural framework—including sections of the roof and supporting timber beams—have been intentionally incorporated into the interior design, becoming part of the home’s architectural identity.

Inside, the sense of tranquillity is immediate and profound. Open a window and the sounds of rustling leaves from the surrounding woodland and gentle waves lapping against the shoreline create a naturally calming atmosphere.
