Beyond its striking design and extraordinary views lies something far more compelling: a home with soul.

The owner shares his story, in his own words...

”There is something about this house that makes people pause when they first walk through the door. Perhaps it’s the sense of space, unexpected views or the way the architecture draws the surrounding landscape into everyday life.

As the owner and self-appointed Head of Maintenance, I sometimes overlook the bigger architectural picture. Perhaps that’s the privilege of living somewhere extraordinary: eventually, it simply becomes home.

The house is generous in scale yet never feels imposing. It certainly feels like a home. Its unconventional architecture creates beautifully connected spaces, intimate retreats and remarkable views from almost every room.

We raised our three boys here, and the house became a natural gathering place for family and friends. What works so beautifully is the balance between togetherness and independence.

Now, a few things I’d want to know if I were buying this home.

Considerable thought has gone into making it practical and resilient. An 8kW solar installation, 24-metre borehole irrigating both gardens and 30,000-litre subterranean rainwater harvesting tank connected to the home’s water system provide valuable independence.

Outdoor living embraces Cape Town’s changing seasons. The pool and sundeck flow into a fully equipped braai and entertainment area, while a sheltered courtyard offers an alternative setting for windy afternoons. Two west-facing balconies capture magnificent sunsets.

The main bedroom is perhaps the home’s most extraordinary sanctuary. Soaring double-glazed windows frame spectacular lake views, creating an almost cathedral-like atmosphere. A private lounge, swing couch and secluded deck with custom water feature complete this remarkable retreat.

At dawn and dusk, birds travelling between the lake and coast pass overhead, sometimes including flamingos. It’s something photographs simply cannot capture.

Bespoke Kiaat woodwork adds warmth and individuality, while the remaining bedrooms enjoy views towards Chapman’s Peak, landscaped gardens and glimpses of the ocean.

And then, of course, there is the lake.

A private jetty provides direct water access, and our treasured 1974 Mirror sailing and rowing dinghy, Isla B, will remain with the home. She taught our family and countless friends to sail and feels as much a part of this place as the house itself.

Practical features include four bedrooms, a generous separate home office and an outdoor surfer’s shower.

And somewhere within the architecture, there’s even a secret room. Some discoveries are best left for a viewing.

Completed in 2013, the home has been carefully maintained and thoughtfully adapted over the years.

Photographs capture the architecture, light and extraordinary views, but never quite the feeling of living here.

Perhaps sanctuary is the closest word. A home offering privacy without isolation, where family and friends gather without ever feeling crowded.

Perhaps that’s what people sense when they first walk through the door.

It’s something you must experience for yourself.

If you have the opportunity, come and see it on a weekday morning. It’s a particularly beautiful time to experience the house.

A HOME TO EXPERIENCE. A FEELING TO REMEMBER.

Some properties impress at first glance. Others reveal their beauty through unexpected perspectives, quiet moments and an extraordinary connection to nature.

This property is one of those rare homes.

Some homes are simply beautiful. Others stay with you long after you leave.
