Lucena, the ancient Eliossana, was known as the “Pearl of Sepharad”: a city with deep Andalusian and Hebrew roots that for centuries was one of the great Jewish centres of Al-Andalus. Today it is one of the most dynamic towns in Córdoba’s Subbética, Its devotion to the Virgin of Araceli, patron saint of the city and of the Andalusian countryside, sets the rhythm of its life and festivities.
Here stands this magnificent palace house, built at the height of Lucena’s civil Baroque. Its monumental façade, with a doorway of veined stone from the Subbética quarries, hints at what lies within: one of the best-preserved and most characteristic colonnaded Baroque courtyards in the region’s civil architecture.
The house offers 1,149 m² built. The ground floor has a private garage for three cars and several rooms for work areas and storage. A magnificent entrance hall (zaguán) leads into a spacious reception area with two rooms currently used as studies or sitting rooms. Around the courtyard there is a charming wine cellar with a tasting area and a large multi-purpose room.
A majestic staircase, crowned by a Baroque dome and closed off on both floors by glazed wooden doors, leads to the first floor. There, wide galleries open onto surprising, beautifully preserved rooms where the craftsmanship of the period dazzles in every detail: a magnificent chapel, drawing rooms with finely decorated ceilings, wooden columns, carved oak fireplaces and convent-style turntables serving as a hatch between kitchen and dining room. The whole house enjoys excellent natural light.
The flooring is original throughout and the doors are of the highest quality, a true reflection of Lucena’s renowned carpentry tradition.
