Le Tholonet is a small commune immediately east of Aix-en-Provence, set against the slopes of the Montagne Sainte-Victoire, the limestone massif that Paul Cézanne painted repeatedly from the roads and paths that still wind through this area. The village retains a distinctly rural character despite its proximity to Aix, with stone bastides, pine woodland, and the Route Cézanne running through it. Properties here are genuinely scarce, and the commune has resisted the suburban sprawl that has absorbed much of the Aix periphery.
Daily life revolves around Aix-en-Provence, roughly five to ten minutes by car. The Marché du Cours Mirabeau and the covered Marché Central on Place Richelme are the reference points for food shopping. The Route Cézanne itself has a handful of local addresses, and the Château du Tholonet grounds are accessible nearby. Aix’s full range of restaurants, schools, and cultural venues is within easy reach.
Aix-en-Provence TGV station, located at the Arbois plateau west of the city, connects to Paris Gare de Lyon in approximately three hours and to Marseille Saint-Charles in under fifteen minutes by high-speed rail. Marseille Provence Airport is approximately 30 kilometres from Le Tholonet, a drive of around 30 to 35 minutes via the A8 motorway, with direct flights to major European and international destinations.
