THE CHILDREN’S COTTAGE

On the coast of Penchâteau, houses overlooking the sea are rare, and they rarely change owners. It has belonged to the same family since the late 1950s.

You get there by an alley lined with large maritime pines. On the other side, the sea: a covered terrace, a kiosk open to the entire bay, then a staircase that goes directly down to the beach. This is the kind of detail that changes the holiday: we go swimming from the garden.

The house is made of stone, visible on the ocean side. On the ground floor, the living room and the dining room both overlook the sea. The living room has kept its monumental stone and brick fireplace and its French ceiling, the entrance its original cement tiles. A bedroom, a bathroom and a kitchen complete this level. The first floor has five bedrooms, two facing the sea, and a bathroom; the second, three bedrooms under the roof and an attic. A cellar, a lumberjack and a garage are added, for about 230 m² of living space.

Everything is to be taken back, and it is better to know before coming: insulation, heating, windows, water rooms, kitchen. It is also an opportunity, rare here, to design your seaside home from start to finish, without buying back someone else’s choices.

The site is protected, the pines too: between the house and the sea, there is only the garden and the beach.

The Children’s Chalet is offered by Christie’s International Real Estate. Information and visits by appointment.

La Baule, one of the most beautiful bays in Europe.

La Baule is a chic seaside resort where a certain art of living is cultivated, authentic and highly prized.

Bordered by the marinas of Le Pouliguen and Pornichet, it already welcomed famous vistors such as Balzac and Flaubert in the 19th century, who discovered the famous benefits of sea baths.

As early as the 1930s, the establishment of a luxury 5 star Palaces and casinos meant that the whole of Paris was in a hurry, and the resort became a popular destination for the jet-set, where you could meet Maurice chevalier, Josephine Baker, Sacha Guitry, Charlie Chaplin, and Tino Rossi.

La Baule offeres its beautiful neighborhoods under the names of ”des Oiseaux”, ”des Arbres”, Lajarrige and the highly prized ”Benoit” neighborhood. The bourgeois Stone villas are splendid and surrounded by pine trees.

Today, the resort still welcomes families who like to get together for a quiet break, but also Leaders of big international enterprises, businessmen, politicians, stars, a very chic clientele and people who all appreciate being able to cycle or go to the beach in complete discretion all along beautiful streets with ancient villas.

The TGV train station and the Nantes Atlantique international airport allow numerous and fast connections to France and Europe, many decide to settle year round.
