La Verdière Château

Haut Var - LA VERDIERE 83560

The Château de La Verdière is the largest private castle in Provence and the only one to preserve intact a thousand years of lineage among three great families.

Built in 980 by the Castellane family, transformed by the Vintimille and then by the Forbin family—who are credited with Provence’s attachment to the Kingdom of France—the Château de La Verdière is not just any residence: it is a living fragment of Provençal history.

Its current appearance bears the signature of Louis-Roch de Forbin d’Oppède, who retired here in 1756 and devoted seventeen years to making it one of the most refined residences of its time. State rooms, a ballroom over 30 meters long, a library, an archive room, and a 40-meter terrace unfold beneath exceptionally fine stuccoes, among the most remarkable in Provence.

Confiscated during the Revolution, occupied by eight hundred troops in 1848, and classified as a Historic Monument in its entirety in 1986, the castle has endured trials without ever losing its soul.

Since the 2000s, its owner has dedicated seven years to restoration in collaboration with Historic Monuments authorities, restoring each stone to its original nobility.

The estate offers 5,000 m² of living space across five levels, served by five grand staircases and an elevator. About one hundred rooms make up this ensemble, including 25 bedrooms and suites with private bathrooms, each opening onto panoramic terraces. Up to ten additional bedrooms can be considered depending on the future owner’s project.

Surrounding the castle, 16 hectares of fully enclosed grounds create a unique lifestyle:
- French formal gardens
- Olive grove
- Land for a future vineyard
- Two swimming pools and ponds
- Stables with a training arena
- Caretaker houses and outbuildings

A private helipad provides direct access to the estate, away from public roads and prying eyes.

The lordly chapel, vaulted kitchen, and large reception hall each tell a layer of history, from the defensive keep to the pleasure salons of the Enlightenment era.

From the park, views extend to Mont Ventoux, the Luberon, Sainte-Baume, and Sainte-Victoire.

Located in the heart of Green Provence, about 45 minutes from Marseille-Provence airport, Aix-en-Provence TGV station, and the shores of the French Riviera, the castle offers the privacy of a fully enclosed estate without sacrificing accessibility.

An exceptional private residence, it is also suitable for a high-end hotel or hospitality project.

The Château de La Verdière belongs to no one: it simply awaits the one it will choose.
