Historic Kiln In La Morra With A "Turnkey" Renovation Project

The ancient Fornace is located in La Morra, a municipality that combines a strong early medieval identity with its modern vocation, renowned worldwide for its wine-growing landscapes. The chimney, along with the rest of the kiln, is made of brick and mortar and is registered in the General Catalogue of Cultural Heritage as part of the industrial architecture heritage. In the lists of the Piedmont Region, it is also indicated among the settlement structures that contribute to the landscape identity: not only a memory of industrial history but also a characteristic element of the Langhe landscape. The protection of the complex, now privately owned, is entrusted solely to the Local Landscape Commission, with an express favorable opinion on the intervention. The renovation project, illustrated in photographic renderings and already ready to be carried out, has obtained all the necessary approvals and is included in the ”turnkey” economic proposal. The ground floor, located in the circular tunnel, must be at least partly dedicated to a ”territory museum” - public or private. An exhibition space dedicated to wines, exhibitions, artworks, and/or typical products, possibly linked to tastings or catering activities. The upper floor is classified as a ”building in a tourist-accommodation area” and can therefore be used as a guesthouse in the broadest sense of the term: catering, hospitality, reception, representation, and so on. As part of urban regeneration and the enhancement of industrial heritage, the kiln of La Morra is now at the center of a prestigious recovery project, thanks to its historical and architectural value. It is not just a simple ruin, but a symbol of the ancient local industrial activity, dating back two centuries. The Regional Landscape Plan of Piedmont recognizes it as one of the significant testimonies of industrial landscape heritage.
