The winemaking tradition of this winery dates back to the late 19th century, when on the slopes of Monte Carche, Mrs. Josefa Verdú, a passionate viticulturist, managed to produce exceptional harvests. These wines gained international recognition, highlighted by a medal of honor at the 1892 Chicago World’s Fair, thanks to their export to markets such as the United States and Cuba.

The main estate, known as “La Alberquilla,” is located in southeastern Spain, between Jumilla and Pinoso, and has approximately 200 hectares of vineyards. Its privileged altitude, orientation, and soil composition make it an ideal environment for cultivating selected varieties. Among the white grapes are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Verdil; while the red varieties include Monastrell, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Pinot Noir.

The modern facilities, inaugurated in 2009, are designed for an annual production of up to one million bottles. The total storage capacity reaches 1.5 million liters, including a barrel area with a capacity of 34,200 liters. The bottling line meets the highest international standards and is mainly focused on export.

The excellence of these wines has been recognized in multiple international competitions, earning awards such as the Pentaward Platinum for design, medals in Brussels and Vienna, and various recognitions at international fairs, including in Asia.

Origins and History
On the slopes of Monte Carche, in southeastern Spain, vineyards are cultivated with a winemaking heritage dating back to the late 19th century. It was there that Mrs. Josefa Verdú, passionate about viticulture, began working these lands, achieving harvests of remarkable quality. Her success was not only local, as her wines were exported to distant destinations such as the United States and Cuba.

One of the most important milestones in the history of this winemaking was the award of a Medal of Honor at the 1892 Chicago World’s Fair, a distinction that certified the excellence achieved by these wines from the very beginning.
