The New Castle of Incisa is a historic building that has its roots in a medieval castle built right before the year 1000, set in the very center of the ancient hilltop village which overlooks the valley close to Nizza Monferrato.
The castle itself, witness to multiple changes of fortune, repeated conquests that mark the history of the Monferrato, destructions and reconstructions, has accompanied the history of the noble family of the Marquis of Incisa, a noble house whose power was at its peak between the 12th and the 14th century when it participated actively in the power struggles between the main noble families like the Monferrato, the Savoia and the Visconti.
The castle owes its current appearance to a far-reaching reconstruction undertaken in the early 1900’s in the then popular Neogothic style, while still preserving many anterior architectural features, among them traces of the original Medieval tower which can still be made out on the hilltop which is part of the property’s park.
The New Castle of Incisa is built around a courtyard which is enclosed on three sides by the castle’s wings and on its fourth side by an impressive wall which consolidates the slope of the hill which contains the estate’s large park.
The castle spreads over two floors connected by two internal staircases and a large cellar. Each floor consists of a series of communicating rooms.
The rooms, which number in total 26, exhibit alternatively precious vaulted, coffered and frescoed ceilings. Almost all the floors are original, made mostly of cement tiles arranged in varying designs.
The masonry and the roofs are in good condition. Obviously, the utilities are in need of updating and adapting to the uses which the property will be put to. One of the side wings is topped by a crenelated tower with truly stunning landscape views.
The land which spreads over 3 hectares at the edge of the village was previously cultivated as a vineyard, wine production having been and still being the pride of the area.
