Henningsvær Lighthouse was established in 1857 as a so-called fishing lighthouse, built to ensure safe navigation into one of Norway’s most important fishing villages. At that time, the Lofoten fisheries were experiencing rapid growth, and Henningsvær developed into a central hub for fishermen from across the coast. The lighthouse therefore played a crucial role as a guiding light in challenging and weather-exposed waters, particularly during the winter fishing season when thousands of boats sought shelter in the harbor.

The lighthouse was manned, and the lighthouse keeper with family lived on-site. Their task was to keep the light operational through darkness, storms, and long winter periods - a vital function in an era without modern navigation systems.

In 1935, the lighthouse was automated and subsequently decommissioned as a manned lighthouse station, replaced by a simpler light. Today, the property stands as a historic landmark at the very edge of the ocean, offering a unique combination of cultural heritage, location, and exclusivity.
