Twin New Build Villas With Private Saunas And Year Round Lodging License In Hakone

Sengokuhara Yokan is a pair of newly built, detached timber villas on the Sengokuhara plateau in Hakone, on 568.9 m² (about 6,100 sq ft) of land with about 211 m² (2,275 sq ft) of floor space in total. What sets it apart is its lodging license. Registered as a simple lodging under Japan’s Inns and Hotels Act, the property may operate 365 days a year, without the 180-night limit that applies to private home-sharing, so it can serve as the owners’ second home and be let when they are away. The susuki grasslands are within walking distance, and the villas are offered together or individually.

Inside, each living room rises to a ceiling of about six metres. Natural timber runs from the floor to the roofline, and tall windows bring Hakone’s light deep into the house, so the seasons outside become the main picture in the room. Wood floors meet the texture of stone under soft, indirect lighting. The kitchen opens onto the dining table, keeping cooking and conversation in the same space.

Each villa follows the same quiet plan and sleeps up to eight. On the ground floor, a living, dining and kitchen space of about 33 m² opens to the terrace, alongside a tatami room, a 4.14 m² dry sauna and a bath that draws milky-white water in the manner of Hakone’s hot springs. Two bedrooms sit upstairs, around the double-height void. With private gardens and parking for four cars, the two houses are close enough to live as one household, separate enough to live as two.

In autumn, the grass on the plateau turns gold by mid-afternoon. By the time the walk ends back at the house, the sauna is ready and the last light lingers in the high windows of the living room.

The villas were completed in 2026 and are ready for handover. Owners may run them themselves or appoint professional management covering cleaning, reservations and guest services, and a private chef can be arranged for evenings at home. Operating projections are available to qualified buyers on request. The Pola Museum of Art is in the same district, with Lake Ashi and several golf courses, including Hakone Country Club, in the wider area.
