The Carmen De Los Cipreses Is One Of The Most Precious And Oldest Places In The Albaicín

The Carmen de los Cipreses is one of the most precious and oldest places in the Albaicín, with the classification of “monument” within the Assets of Cultural Interest. The Alhambra can be observed calmly from its gardens, from monument to monument. Its layout faithfully shows the typology of the Granadan carmen: a main house, located at the highest point of the property, and various gardens forming paratas (terraces), adapting to the unevenness of the terrain until reaching the lowest terrace, where there is an orchard.

The craftsmanship of the main hall stands out, belonging to the disappeared Casa de los Siete Moros, which was demolished in the seventies. The patio of the house leads to the large and beautiful garden, in which the pergola, the pool and a cypress gazebo stand out.

In addition to its artistic and architectural value, it also has great historical value, as it was a regular meeting place for intellectuals from Granada, such as Ángel Ganivet, and international politicians such as Helmut Kohl, former German chancellor, Bill Clinton, for example. They held literary gatherings here and enjoyed the beautiful views of the Alhambra. This Carmen also belonged to Nicolás María López Fernández, one of the most influential writers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and a close friend of Ganivet.
