Welcome to Turufjell – Perhaps Norway’s Most Exciting Year-Round Destination, Less Than 2 Hours from Oslo
Turufjell is located in Flå, between Hønefoss and Geilo/Hemsedal, where major developers from the Olav Thon Group and Fredensborg Fritid are shaping a vibrant mountain community. This destination emphasizes year-round activities. In winter, you’ll find a family-friendly alpine resort and excellent cross-country skiing in the scenic Vassfarfjellet area, with beautiful trails between Veneli and Solheimseter. For longer adventures, you can connect to the “Eventyrløypa” trail and ski for miles across open mountain terrain. (See trail map: [hidden information])
Currently, the resort features 2 ski lifts and 7 slopes for all skill levels—from gentle family runs to more advanced descents. Plans are underway for a longer chairlift toward Kristnatten, which will open up even more terrain. (More info: [hidden information]/aktiviteter)
In summer, Turufjell offers a wide range of hiking opportunities, from short walks to summit hikes and longer treks into the Vassfaret wilderness. Trails pass idyllic fishing lakes and historic summer farms, including the Vassfaret Nature and Culture Trail and the Veneli Mountain Forest Trail. Popular peaks accessible from the cabin include Kristnatten (1,077 m), Blåfjell (1,154 m), Likkistefjell (990 m), and Sørbølfjell (1,284 m).
Turufjell is also home to Hallingdal’s largest—and one of Norway’s biggest—pump tracks, along with a BMX park featuring trails for all skill levels. A new flow trail for mountain biking is being added to the alpine area this summer, and more biking and hiking trails are under development, offering unforgettable nature experiences.
Flå town center is just 15 minutes away and offers a shopping mall (Bjørneparken Kjøpesenter) with everything you need. Nearby, you’ll also find Bjørneparken Zoo, open from early spring to late autumn, where you can see both native wildlife and exotic animals.
In short, Turufjell is a welcoming family destination with a wide range of activities for all ages—just under 2 hours from Oslo, about half the travel time to more traditional mountain cabin areas further up the valley.
Turufjell offers endless opportunities for unforgettable nature experiences year-round. With panoramic southwest-facing views, excellent sun exposure, and plenty of space to roam, you can relax on the sunny terrace of your new cabin or step straight into the surrounding wilderness.
