Varigotti is part of the municipality of Finale Ligure, in the province of Savona (western Liguria). It is about 18 km from the provincial capital and just over 70 km from Genoa.
The beaches are Varigotti’s main attraction, suitable for families with small children. A long stretch of pebbles mixed with sand lies between the historic center and a crystal-clear sea, alternating between free areas and beach resorts (including some dog-friendly ones). The most renowned is certainly Baia dei Saraceni, a narrow free beach of sand and gravel with rocky sections right by the sea. The scenery is spectacular, dominated by the lush green vegetation growing on the promontory and the sea colors ranging from turquoise to emerald green.
One of the most charming spots on the Riviera di Ponente, hidden among steep cliffs, Punta Crena cove is a small secret corner formed over the years by mountain erosion caused by the waves crashing against its walls. The beach is enclosed in a tiny bay about forty meters wide and fifty meters deep, hence the name ”spiaggetta” (little beach).
Off-limits to all motorboats, Punta Crena beach is accessible only by swimming, or with a mattress, canoe, or pedal boat.
Recommended for snorkelling enthusiasts due to the rich seabed and for naturists seeking privacy.
The charm of Varigotti lies in its distinctive Saracen village atmosphere: no famous museums or monuments, but finding picturesque views is easy. The houses on Varigotti’s beach are often photographed; their bright colors create a beautiful contrast with the clear blue Ligurian sky, and their unique architecture enchants all visitors.
For more beautiful photos, you can climb to the top of the Punta Crena promontory, which divides the historic center from the Malpasso area. A 15-minute uphill walk along a path leads to a tower built in the second half of the 16th century to protect the city from Turkish invasions and the remains of a medieval castle destroyed by the Genoese in 1341. From here, you can enjoy splendid sea views. The promontory is part of the Punta Crea Natural Area and is covered by dense Mediterranean vegetation.
Among Varigotti’s religious buildings, the parish church of San Lorenzo deserves mention, featuring Baroque style with a late-Gothic bell tower.
Not just the sea… Finale Ligure is the meeting point for outdoor activities. Sports, tourism, and leisure activities in an extraordinary territory full of natural wonders to experience. Many trails have been featured in the Enduro World Series stages held annually in Finale since 2013. Then there is the 24H of Finale loop on the Manie plateau, an incredibly fun route with a unique panorama, absolutely unmissable!
