Estepona occupies a distinct position on the Costa del Sol, sitting between Marbella to the east and Gibraltar to the southwest. Unlike much of the coast, Estepona has retained a recognisable Andalusian character: a whitewashed old town with flower-lined streets, a working fishing port, and a seafront promenade that predates the resort era. The New Golden Mile corridor, stretching northeast toward San Pedro de Alcántara, has become the coast’s most consistently high-specification residential address over the past decade.
Daily life here centres on the Estepona marina, the covered market on Calle Castillo, and a seafront promenade running several kilometres along the beach. Restaurants such as La Escollera and El Gaviero serve fresh fish directly from the port. Atalaya Golf, Estepona Golf, and Valle Romano are all within a short drive, as is the beach club strip along the New Golden Mile.
Marbella is approximately 25 minutes by car, and Puerto Banús is reachable in under 20 minutes. Málaga Airport, the main international hub for the Costa del Sol, is roughly 80 kilometres east, typically a 55 to 65 minute drive depending on traffic. The AP-7 motorway provides direct access in both directions along the coast. Gibraltar Airport, serving additional UK and European routes, is around 50 kilometres to the southwest, approximately 45 minutes by car.
