Estepona occupies a distinct position on the Costa del Sol, sitting between Marbella to the east and Gibraltar to the south, with the Sierra Bermeja mountains rising sharply behind the town. Unlike much of the coast, Estepona has retained a recognisable Andalusian character: whitewashed streets, flower-lined plazas, and a working fishing port alongside a marina. The town has invested heavily in its historic centre over the past decade, making it one of the more coherent and liveable addresses on this stretch of coastline.
The old town offers daily markets, tapas bars along Calle Real, and the Plaza de las Flores as a social anchor. The beach promenade runs for several kilometres. El Lago restaurant and the dining options within the Puerto Deportivo are within easy reach. Marbella and Puerto Banús are approximately 30 minutes east by car.
Estepona sits on the A-7 coastal road and the AP-7 toll motorway, giving direct access to Marbella in around 30 minutes and Málaga city in approximately one hour. Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport is roughly 80 kilometres away, a journey of under an hour by car, and operates direct routes to most major European cities. Gibraltar Airport is approximately 45 kilometres to the southwest, offering an additional international connection.
