PS: A bit of history about the building:
1883: The trigger - construction of the Rangiport bridge (1883)
Before this date, crossing the Seine between Épône and Gargenville required a ferry.
In 1883, the first rigid iron arch bridge was built, resting on Rangiport Island.

The opening of this bridge and the gradual increase in road traffic led to the birth of the Hôtel du Pont. At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, inns and hotels strategically placed at bridge entrances served as stops for cart drivers, travelers, early motorists, and Sunday strollers (cyclists and boating enthusiasts on the Seine).

June 1940: The Rangiport bridge was dynamited by the French army to slow the advance of German troops. The area became isolated from the river, temporarily replaced in 1941 by precarious wooden footbridges.

August 1944 (Liberation): The area suffered heavy fighting and bombings. Before leaving Épône on August 18, 1944, the Germans destroyed much of the surrounding infrastructure, including the Épône castle.

1960s: Post-war and modernization
For over twenty years, crossing the Seine was done on increasingly deteriorated wooden footbridges (eventually banned for traffic in the early 1960s).
In 1965, construction began on the current metal bridge (Warren truss).

The Hôtel du Pont adapted through these times, evolving from a rural relay hotel to a more modern roadside establishment, reflecting the transformation of the Rangiport road into a major industrial and road axis in the Seine Valley. The Hôtel du Pont d’Épône is remembered not just as a simple roadside stop but also as a venue regularly hosting weddings and other prestigious events, with ample space for dancing thanks to the large dining rooms.
