Crni Lug is a small village in Gorski Kotar, Croatia. It is situated at the foot of the Risnjak mountain. It is surrounded by lush green meadows and dark coniferous forests, from which the village got its name. It is located at an altitude of about 700 meters, and it is home to only about 300 residents. This picturesque mountain village is best known for the Risnjak National Park. The park’s headquarters and main entrance are located here.
The Risnjak and Snježnik mountains were declared a national park back in 1953 due to their diverse flora and fauna, as well as the well-preserved numerous forest communities. The park is home to all three of Europe’s large carnivores - the wolf, bear, and lynx. In addition to the well-maintained educational trail Leska, it’s also worth visiting the source of the Kupa River.
