Residential Deià Spain

Deià occupies a steep hillside on Mallorca’s northwest coast, within the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape recognised for its centuries-old agricultural terracing and dramatic coastal topography. The village has long attracted writers, painters, and musicians, most famously the poet Robert Graves, who lived here for decades and whose presence shaped an enduring international artistic identity. Stone houses, olive groves, and a small medieval church define the compact village core.

Daily life centres on the village itself and the short drive to Sóller, roughly 10 kilometres east, which has a weekly market, supermarkets, and a broader range of services. Ca n’Alluny, the Robert Graves museum, is within the village. The cove of Cala Deià, a short walk downhill, is the local swimming spot. Valldemossa is approximately 15 kilometres south.

Palma de Mallorca is approximately 30 kilometres from Deià by road, typically a 40 to 50 minute drive via the Ma-10 coastal route or the faster inland road through Valldemossa. Palma Airport handles direct flights to most major European cities and several intercontinental routes, with journey time from Deià of around one hour. There is no rail connection to the village; a car is essential for residents.
