Ciutadella de Menorca occupies the western tip of the island and functions as its historic and cultural capital, despite Mahón holding the administrative title. The old city is defined by its Gothic cathedral, aristocratic palaces along Carrer del Seminari, and a natural harbour that cuts deep into the coastline. The urban fabric is compact and largely pedestrianised, with a character that feels distinctly Catalan and Mediterranean, shaped by centuries of Aragonese and brief Ottoman influence.

Daily life centres on the Plaça des Born and the covered Mercat Municipal for fresh produce. Es Caliu and Smoix are well-regarded local restaurants. The harbour promenade connects the old town to working fishing quays within a short walk. Cala Turqueta and Son Saura beaches are roughly 15 minutes by car.

Menorca Airport, located near Mahón on the eastern side of the island, is approximately 45 kilometres from Ciutadella, a drive of around 45 minutes. The airport operates direct routes to major European cities including London, Barcelona, Madrid, and Frankfurt, with frequency increasing significantly in summer. Regular ferry services from Ciutadella port connect to Alcúdia in Mallorca in around one hour by fast ferry, and to Barcelona and Valencia by overnight crossing.
