Castril is a small historic municipality in the northeast of Granada province, set within the Sierra de Castril Natural Park, a protected landscape of limestone gorges, river canyons, and dense pine and oak forest. The town itself retains a distinctly Andalusian character, with whitewashed streets climbing toward a Moorish castle ruin that frames the skyline. This is agricultural and natural Andalusia at its most unaltered, a working landscape of olive groves and mountain terrain largely unchanged for centuries.

Daily life in Castril centres on the town’s small commercial core, with local bars, a weekly market, and basic services. Granada city, approximately 50 kilometres to the southwest, provides the full range of cultural institutions, restaurants, and retail, including the Alhambra, the Cathedral quarter, and the Albaicín neighbourhood. The drive takes under an hour.

Castril sits roughly 50 kilometres from Granada, which connects to Madrid via high-speed AVE rail in approximately three hours and twenty minutes. Málaga International Airport, the primary international gateway for the region, is around 180 kilometres away, approximately two hours by road. Granada Airport offers additional domestic and select European connections and is considerably closer, at under an hour’s drive from Castril.
