Castellar de la Frontera is a fortified hilltop municipality in the Campo de Gibraltar comarca, rising above the Embalse de Palmones reservoir in the far south of Andalusia. The old village, a medieval walled pueblo within a Moorish castle, sits at around 600 metres elevation and offers unobstructed views across to the Strait of Gibraltar and the Moroccan coastline. The surrounding terrain is protected cork oak and pine woodland, part of the Los Alcornocales Natural Park, one of the largest cork oak forests in Europe.

The village itself contains the four-star Hotel Al Moraima and the Tugasa El Castillo hotel, both within the castle precinct, along with a small selection of local restaurants and essential services including supermarkets, a pharmacy, and banking. Sotogrande Marina, the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, and the Santa Maria Polo Club are all within approximately 20 minutes by car.

Gibraltar International Airport is roughly 30 kilometres south, offering direct connections to London, Manchester, and other European cities. Malaga Airport, with its full international network, is approximately 120 kilometres northeast, around 90 minutes by car via the AP-7 motorway. Algeciras, the main ferry port for crossings to Ceuta and Tangier, is around 20 kilometres away. The AP-7 provides straightforward access north toward Marbella and Malaga or south toward La Linea and Gibraltar.
