Cassis, Presqu’île De Cassis – Renovated Provençal House

Cassis occupies a position that is genuinely rare on the French Mediterranean coast: a working fishing port that has retained its village scale and architectural coherence despite its international reputation. The old port is framed by limestone cliffs and the Calanques, the series of narrow fjord-like inlets that extend westward toward Marseille and carry protected national park status. The town’s pastel facades, weekly market on Place Baragnon, and absence of high-rise development give it a character that larger Côte d’Azur resorts have long since lost.

Daily life in Cassis centres on the port and its immediate surroundings. La Villa Madie holds two Michelin stars and sits at the edge of the Presqu’île. The Tuesday and Friday markets on Place Baragnon supply local produce year-round. The Calanques are accessible on foot or by boat from the port, and the town’s own beaches, including Plage de la Grande Mer, are within easy walking distance of most addresses.

Cassis sits 30 kilometres east of Marseille, reachable in under 40 minutes by car via the A50 motorway. The nearest train station is Cassis-La Ciotat, with regular TGV connections from Marseille Saint-Charles to Paris in approximately three hours. Marseille Provence Airport is 35 kilometres away, roughly 35 to 40 minutes by car, with direct routes to major European hubs and beyond.
