Cannes occupies a singular position on the French Riviera, a city whose international reputation rests on more than its annual film festival. The Boulevard de la Croisette defines the seafront, curving along the Bay of Cannes with a consistency of scale and architectural ambition that few Mediterranean cities can match. Behind it, the old quarter of Le Suquet rises on its hill, and the residential heights above the city offer some of the most commanding views on the Côte d’Azur.
Daily life in Cannes centres on the Marché Forville for produce, the Rue Meynadier for independent food shops, and a restaurant scene anchored by addresses such as La Palme d’Or at the Martinez and Mantel in the old town. The Îles de Lérins are a fifteen-minute ferry ride from the Vieux-Port.
Cannes is served by its own train station on the main Marseille to Ventimiglia line, with direct TGV connections to Paris in roughly five and a half hours. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is approximately 25 kilometres east, around 30 minutes by car, and handles direct routes to most major European cities as well as long-haul destinations. Monaco is reachable in under an hour by road.
